A window garden for a shared room

A sunny sill can give a shared room a gentle daily rhythm. At Common Ground, three pots of herbs became a reason to pause, notice the light, and leave the table ready for the next visitor.

Start with the light

Watch the window at breakfast, midday, and late afternoon before choosing a plant. A bright room does not always provide direct sun. Place the pots on washable trays and leave the window handle clear.

Give care a visible home

Keep a small watering can near the plants and a plain note recording the last watering. One person checks the soil each morning; everyone is welcome to notice a dry leaf or a leaning stem.

Leave room for ordinary work

The garden should support the room rather than take it over. Keep the center of the table free, move soil work to a tray, and leave a clear route for someone carrying a bag or using a mobility aid.
